The Department of Anthropology was established with the establishment year of Gossner College in 1971. According to the history of the college, as we heard, the college was started with 6 subjects and among them one subject was Anthropology. Reverend Dr. Nirmal Minz, the founder of the Gossner College was also an anthropologist.

The Department of Economics is one of the constituent departments of Gossner College, Ranchi University, Ranchi. It was established on 1971 and received permanent affiliation from Ranchi University in year 1973, with its then Head S.B Mahto took the responsibility to spread the essence of economics.

The Department of English was established in 1971 and it received permanent affiliation for Degree Coursewith Ranchi University in the year 1973. The department has grown from strength to strength over the years and is one of the biggest departments in the college at present.

1971 ई0 में गोस्सनर कॉलेज के स्थापना के साथ ही महाविद्यालय में हिन्दी भाषा की पढ़ाई प्रारंभ हुई,जिसमें हिन्दी प्राध्यापिका के रूप में श्रीमती सीसीबहा तोपनो की नियुक्ति हुई। कॉलेज के स्थापना के समय से ही हिन्दी विभागाध्यक्ष के पद पर रहीं।1986 में महाविद्यालय के संस्थापक डॉ0 निर्मल मिंज के सेवानिवृत होने के बाद उन्होंने प्रथम महिला प्राचार्या के पद पर अपना योगदान दिया । उसके बाद क्रमषः कई प्राध्यापक हुए जिन्होंने हिन्दी विभाग में अपनी सेवा दी उनमें श्रीमती सीसीबहा तोपनो के बाद डॉ0 गोविन्द साहू , डॉ0 आर पी साहू , डॉ0 डेजी कोनगाड़ी ,डॉ0 एस्थेर रानी टुडू हिन्दी विभागाध्यक्ष पद पर रहे। इन्हीं के समकालीन डॉ0 अनिता एक्का भी हिन्दी प्राध्यापिका के रूप में विभाग में कार्यरत रहीं।

गोस्सनर कॉलेज, राँची की स्थापना 1 नवंम्बर 1971 ई॰ को गोस्सनर एवंजिलिकल लूथरेन चर्च छोटानागपूर एवं असम, राँची के द्वारा की गई थी। कॉलेज की स्थापना के साथ ही इतिहास विषय की पढ़ाई प्रारंभ हो गई थी। इस समय राँची विश्वविद्यालय, राँची के द्वारा इण्टरमीडिएट की पढ़ाई/परीक्षा संचालित की जाती थी। 1975 ई॰ में पहला बैच डिग्री स्तर की परीक्षा में शामिल हुआ और इसमें इतिहास विषय के विद्यार्थी भी शामिल थे।

Rabindranath Tagore has written in the treatise titled “Shikshaar Sangikaran” – “Mother tongue is like breast-feeding”. Mother tongue is the holder and carrier of culture. Gossner College is such an educational institution, where mother tongue has been given a special place. Since the inception of the college, mother tongues like Bangla, Urdu, Kurukh, Mundari, Santhali and Nagpuri etc. have been taught here.

नवम्बर 2021 को स्वर्णिम जुबिली वर्ष मनाकर गोस्सनर कॉलेज अपने कर्Ÿाव्य पथ पर अग्रसर है। 1 नवम्बर 1971 को रोपा गया छोटा सा बिरूआ (बीज) आज बड़े वृक्ष का रूप धारण कर चुका है। दो छात्रांे से शुरूआत करनेवाला कॉलेज झारखण्ड राज्य में अभी शिक्षा की विभिन्न शाखाएँ फैला चुका है। जिसकी विभिन्न संकायों तथा विभिन्न विभागों में अनेक विषयों के रूप में लगभग 20 हजार विद्यार्थी अध्ययनरत हैं।

कुॅडुख भाषा साहित्य का उदभव प्रकृति की गोद में हुआ है। नदी-नाला, पहाड़-पर्वत, झरने, प्राकृतिक वादियों से ही कुॅडुख भाषा संस्कृति पल्लवित पुष्पित एवं सुभाषित है। भाषा संस्कृति की संवाहक होती है और साहित्य उसका सौन्दर्य शास्त्र होता है। द्रविड़ परिवार की भाषा कुॅडुख जिसका साहित्य काफी समृद्ध है। काॅलेज के स्थापना काल से ही गोस्सनर काॅलेज, राँची में कुॅडुख भाषा का पठन-पाठन कार्य चल रहा है। भाषा का अध्ययन अर्थात संस्कृति, सभ्यता, रीति-रिवाज, इतिहास आदि का अध्ययन करना है। कुॅडुख भाषा के संरक्षण एवं संवर्द्धन के लिए कुॅडुख विभाग खोली गई है। सामाजिक दायित्व को निभाते हुए इसके लिए काम करने की आवश्यकता है तभी हमारी भाषा रूपी सम्पति जो विरासत में मिली है वह बच पायेगी।

1971 ई में गोस्सनर कॉलेज की स्थापना की गई। उस समय से गोस्सनर कॉलेज में मुंडारी भाषा की पढ़ाई होती है। जिसमें मुंडारी भाषा विभाग में पहला व्याख्याता अंग्रेजी विभाग के प्रो. सुलेमान बडिंग हुए। तत्पश्चात सन 5 नवंबर 1981 ई को डॉक्टर मनसिद्ध बड़ायऊद की मुंडारी भाषा विभाग में व्याख्याता के पद पर नियुक्ति हुई। डॉक्टर मनसिद्ध बड़ायऊद ने 5 नवंबर 1981 ई से लेकर जुलाई 2018 ई तक मुंडारी विभाग में अपना योगदान दिया।

गोस्सनर कॉलेज राँची विश्वविद्यालय का पहला कॉलेज हैं, जहाँ झारखंड की जनजातीय एवं क्षेत्रीय भाषाओं की पढ़ाई प्रारंभ की गयी। जनजातीय भाषाओं में मुंडारी, कुड़ुख के साथ क्षेत्रीय भाषाओं में नागपुरी का अध्यापन भी प्रारंभ किया गया। इसमें गोस्सनर कॉलेज के फाउंडर प्रिंसिपल डॉ. निर्मल मिंज का महत्वपूर्ण योगदान रहा। यूँ कहें उन्हीें के बदौलत झारखंडी भाषाओं की पढ़ाई प्रारंभ हुई।

Dept. of Santhali
झारखंड भाषिक संपदा की दृष्टिकोण से काफी संपन्न राज्य है। यहां पर तकरीबन 15 स्थानीय और क्षेत्रीय भाषाएं बोली जाती हैं। संथाल समुदाय की भाषा को संथाली कहा जाता है। झारखंड में संथाल जनजातियों की संख्या सबसे अधिक है। संथाली भाषा प्रोटोऑस्ट्रोलॉयड परिवार के अंतर्गत आता है। यह बहुत प्राचीन और समृद्ध भाषा है। इस भाषा का अध्यापन होना संथाल भाषा के लिए गौरव की बात है। गोस्सनर कॉलेज की स्थापना 01 नवंबर 1971 को हुई। यह कॉलेज राँची विश्वविद्यालय राँची के अंतर्गत संचालित है। इस कॉलेज में स्थापना काल से झारखंड की जनजातीय एवं क्षेत्रीय भाषाओं की पढ़ाई प्रारंभ की गयी।
